Kara DioGuardi stays, Paula Abdul Bows out of American Idol

The Kara DioGuardi / Paula Abdul fan duel is over and Paula Abdul is the one stepping out of the ring.

Ever since the Producers of American Idol decided to remake the American Idol mold by bringing in a 4th judge in Kara DioGuardi. Fans and foe's of both Kara DioGuardi and Paula Abdul have been quite vocal.

The addition of Kara DioGuardi as a fourth judge changed the formula and let many to believe American Idol producers were preparing for the departure of Paula Abdul from American Idol. What happened though, was a sort of partnership, if you will, between the American Idol chicks, Kara DioGuardi and Paula Abdul vs the American Idol boys. Although Randy Jackson's roll has always been more neutral, compared to Simon, there was already a balance and tie breaker situation.

Over the past few months, there has been plenty of speculation regarding the future of Paula Abdul on American Idol. Much of it focused around the hiring of Kara DioGuardi, who was seen by many as a planned replacement for long time American Idol Judge Paula Abdul.

In addition to going through annual contract negotiations with American Idol Producers, American Idol Judge Paula Abdul hired a new manager in David Sonenberg. With her new management in tow, Paula Abdul reportedly demanded $20 million from the American Idol producers to stay on as an American Idol Judge, but her manager David Sonenberg recently said, "Very sadly, it does not appear that she's going to be back on Idol."
Paula Abdul's latest Twitter post indicates Paula Abdul has decided to call it quits with American Idol. Since the inception of American Idol, Paula Abdul has been a fixture with the show. The constant almost sibling like rivalry between Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell was part of the Idol formula used in several other Idol programs including Australian Idol as well as Canadian Idol.

Since David Sonenberg's announcement on the possible fate of American Idol Judge Paula Abdul, Fans of Paula Abdul launched several campaign's in support of keeping Paula Abdul on American Idol. Last night, Paula Abdul dashed the hopes of her fans and thanks all her supporters when she announced she will be vacating the Paula Abdul seat on American Idol.

In her Twitter message, regarding her resignation from American Idol, Paula Abdul thanked her friends while displaying some underlying discontent towards American Idol producers in her Twitter statement. Displaying a little ego, Paula Abdul's line "being a part of a show that I helped from day1become an international phenomenon" is an obvious indication of some unresolved conflict or discontent over an apparent producer lack of appreciation of Paula Abdul's contribution towards Americian Idol.

There are still those out there who are hoping this radical move of Paula Abdul's in resigning from American Idol is a simple contract negotiation ploy. Insider reports, however, indicate Paula Abdul rejected an eight-figure deal from American Idol producers, which in essence represented a 30 percent raise. Whatever the case, as it sites now, the American Idol Judge team for Season 9 of American Idol consists of Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell. It is unclear if American Idol producers will bring on another female judge to replace Paula Abdul or if they will be going back to the 3 judge formula. Season 9 of American Idol will start airing in January of 2010, without longtime American Idol Judge Paula Abdul.

If search trends are any indication of fact or fiction one would believe SIMON FIRED KARA DIOGUARDI.Looking at the comments from avid AMERICAN IDOL fans, KARA DIOGUARDI is not a popular judge. Why is this, one might ask? Well, according to some KARA DIOGUARDI ruins the flow. Another says KARA DIOGUARDI is boring, while others say KARA comes of amateurish.

The thing is, KARA DIOGUARDI is the new judge on the block and as such she is going to be subject of ridicule. Amateur?? maybe but she is new to the TV Gig. Boring? She did ask BIKINI GIRL to come back NAKED next time. And as for ruining the flow, well I guess that can just be written up as the natural hatred of change in many humans.

The consensus seems to be split over whether adding new fourth judge KARA DIOGUARDI was beneficial or unnecessary for season eight of “American Idol.” A few critics have been praising her while others don't care for her. On our Web site poll, 35 percent of you say you love her, 34 percent are not sure, and 30 percent say no thanks. I’m reserving my judgment until we get to the live shows next month.

Access Hollywood spoke with KARA DIOGUARDI this week about her big wedding news — KARA DIOGUARDI recently got engaged to her school teacher-turned-general contractor boyfriend, Mike McCuddy — and how she feels about 30 million people knowing her name after this week’s episodes.

How did he pop the question?
KARA DIOGUARDI : We were in Mexico on vacation and we were just in the room. I was in my pajamas. We had some candles lit and he said, “You know I love you” and the whole thing and he said, “I have a question for you. Where are my shoes?” I said, “I don’t know where your shoes are!” (He said), “OK, well then will you marry me?” I said, “OK.” Very low-key. He has kind of an off sense of humor. So, I’m not telling it as funny as it was.

The ring is a little bit non-traditional, a David Yurman rather than a diamond ring?
KARA DIOGUARDI : Well, I think my style is different. Diamonds don’t really go so well with some of my other jewelry and my lifestyle. He could have given me a turtle and I’d be happy!

“American Idol” Executive Producer Ken Warwick told me Paula Adbul was running around telling everyone she wanted to be your bridesmaid! (Actually, maid of honor, as I found out later from Abdul, who said she was joking.)

Does it concern you to lose your privacy?
KARA DIOGUARDI : It does, you know. I really don’t know what’s going to happen in terms of, are people going to be interested in me, are they going to want to follow me around. I think that it’s more important that I do great on this job and that I actually find America’s next best thing.

Does being in your 30s make all this newfound fame any easier?
KARA DIOGUARDI : Much easier. I feel like I truly followed my dreams and realized it and no matter what happens whether people like me or not, I can take that to the bank. So, that feels good. I’m engaged. I’m in love, so that part of my life is not in flux. I just feel a lot more stable in my 30s and it’s a great time, a great time. I have nothing to complain about

Should new 'American Idol' host Kara DioGuardi be eligible for an Emmy?

With references all over the Web to Kara DioGuardi as the new "Grammy-nominated" host of "American Idol," surely you're wondering: What was she nominated for?

Turns out it was a Latin Grammy in the race for 2007 song of the year for the Belinda single "Bella Traicion," a nomination Kara DioGuardi shared with Belinda, Mitch Allan, Ben Moody and Nacho Peregrin. They lost to Juan Luis Guerra's "La Llave de Mi Corazon," which also won record of the year. "Bella Traicion" wasn't nominated for that.

But Kara DioGuardi has won other awards. According to her bio on Wikipedia, "In 2003, Kara DioGuardi won a BMI Cable Award for co-writing and performing 'Somethin' to Say,' the theme to the now-canceled Lifetime Television series 'For the People,' which starred Lea Thompson, Debbi Morgan, A. Martinez and Cecilia Suarez. In 2007 she was named BMI's pop songwriter of the year for 2006, as she had accumulated 10 BMI awards in the previous four years for having written the 'most performed songs on the radio.' "

Next stop: an Emmy Award? Since the Emmys recently added a new category for hosts of reality TV shows, do you think the TV academy should add one for judges too?

Poor Kara DioGuardi would have to compete against Simon Cowell, who's now apparently running "American Idol" after the departure of producer Nigel Lythgoe. Considering Cowell's sour 'tude and senior rank, she would be smart never to rise above becoming known as an "Emmy-nominated" judge of reality TV, don't you think?

Simon Cowell's not afraid of making drastic changes. He told TVGuide.com that he wants "American Idol" to "be more interesting and controversial" and "to introduce more jeopardy" to the top-rated TV show.

As a Grammy-nominated songwriter, Kara DioGuardi has worked with the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, the Jonas Brothers, David Cook, Britney Spears and even Celine Dion. But as a judge on the forthcoming season of "American Idol," how will she fare with the likes of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul? Well, she'll find out Tuesday (August 26), when she meets up with her new co-workers for the first time during the New York round of "Idol" auditions.

In a conference call with reporters on Monday, just hours after she was announced as the reality show's fourth judge, Kara DioGuardi admitted that she's "a little nervous" about her new gig — but that doesn't mean she's going to be a pushover.

"I'm going to be a straight-shooter and say it like I see it and maintain that philosophy," she said, according to People.com. "I'm somebody who's really honest and gives an opinion. If I feel I need to be hard, I will be. And if I feel I need to be more nurturing, I will be."

Kara DioGuardi said she "almost fell off the chair" when the show's producers contacted her about the job, and expressed excitement about working next to Abdul, with whom she collaborated on Kylie Minogue's 2000 track "Spinning Around." Asked if she thought Abdul felt threatened by her addition, Kara DioGuardi said that, though she hadn't spoken to her colleague, "I would think she'd be excited."

The songwriter added that she hopes to inject "a new chemistry" into the panel, but she's not entirely sure how the judges will break ties during the auditions. While most viewers won't recognize her when the next season of "Idol" gets under way this coming January, Kara DioGuardi said she hopes fans will accept her.

"I'm not a household name," she said. "I'm putting some money into buying some makeup."

Singer and songwriter Kara DioGuardi has been added on as the fourth judge in American Idol. She will start her run at judge's table along side hosts Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson this January when the new season premieres on FOX.

Mike Darnell, the president of Fox said in a statement, "For the past seven seasons, Paula has had to endure the experience of being the only woman at the judges' table. With Kara by her side, Paula has some backup and now there is going to be a lot more `girl power' on the show."
